January Gift for Paid Subscribers
A blessing of compassion...plus the perils of cross country skiing ⛷
I meant to write earlier, but a broken wrist has set me back 🙁
Yep…just a week ago I broke my wrist while skiing.
And no, I was not downhill skiing. I was cross country skiing. Cross country!
I did not expect a broken bone out of that adventure…
I'm very sorry if this offends someone, but I really thought cross country was what we graduated to when we got old and didn't want to destroy our knees anymore. When I picked up my skis at the cross country shop in town, it was filled with only gray-haired people who looked ridiculously fit and very happy.
I wanted to be them when I grew up.
Of course in the week since my injury, whenever I’ve told someone what happened to my wrist, they always reply with another terrifying cross country skiing story — dislocated shoulders, broken thumbs, cut up faces…
(To be fair though, the dudes with the cut up faces had never been on cross country skis before and were racing each other though the mountains as only the ridiculously athletic and competitive would attempt…)
Who knew gently gliding along powdery tails could be such a perilous ride?
At least I got the joyous experience of being wrapped up like a burrito and strapped to the back of a snow patrol sled to be taken to Urgent Care on the mountain.
The doctors were very nice and didn't treat me like an idiot at all for breaking my wrist on the green circle. 🟢
(Hey, we all have our gifts. Skiing is not one of mine.)
Anyway, I broke my right wrist and I'm right handed and the whole thing has been very painful and annoying. 😣
I'm fine and healing well — as far as breaks go mine really wasn't too bad. But it has made writing a bit of a slower process.
(Thank goodness for modern technology and voice dictation… and the growing capabilities of my left hand to go back and slowly edit everything.)
So, though a few days late, I do want to give all of my paid subscribers your January gift!
